The
Abell
Planetary Observer's Guide is the second in the “At
The Eyepiece” series authored by Alvin Huey. The guides
are written for intermediate and advanced observers
who like a challenge. This "meat" of this
publication features a two page spread containing
everything an observer needs to locate, detect and
observe each Abell Planetary Nebula. The guide
includes a naked eye chart with a TelRadTM
superimposed upon it, a wide-field finder chart
(about 2 x 1.5 degrees), a labeled inverted DSS
image, an eyepiece rendition and detailed observer’s
notes. A
discussion on observing planetary nebulae, equipment
selection, observing sites and recording
observations are included. Update (2021): The book is
upgraded from the standard 60# to much nicer 80#
paper (US and Canada market only). A few
updated observations are included as I successfully
observed the few missed Abell Planetary Nebula in
the previous version. Note: If you
already own the previous edition, I don't think it
is worth the upgrade, unless you prefer the much
nicer 80# paper. Nov
2022: Due to the ever increasing costs to print the
observing guide, we unfortunately need to increase
the price by $3 USD for the first time since launch
in 2005. 2nd Edition, 212 pages.
