Observing the Arp Peculiar Galaxies is the third in the “At the Eyepiece” series by Alvin Huey. The guides were written for intermediate and advanced observers who like a challenge. The objective of this publication is not just to guide the observer in detecting the galaxy, but to guide the observer in detecting the peculiar structure. This publication features the naked eye
sky, strategically sectioned into 46 manageable
chunks, containing up to 12 Arp Peculiar Galaxies
per section. A detailed page with a
wide-field finder chart, observing notes, labeled
inversed DSS image and an eyepiece rendition is
dedicated to each Arp. A discussion on observing galaxies,
observing Arp galaxies and it’s challenges,
equipment selection, observing sites, and
recording observations are included. Revised Edition (2021):
Many new closeups/insets, added a dozen or so new
observations from my friend's 48" reflector and my
22" reflector. Updated some DSS images with
less labelled galaxies for more clarity and a few
sections updated. Note: If you have the
first edition, I don't think you will need to
upgrade to this version, unless you want the
updated 80# paper. 456 pages.
